Two of the strongest contenders for the European crown meet in Paris on Tuesday night, with English referee Michael Oliver in charge. Both clubs arrive in outstanding form, setting up one of the most anticipated games of the league phase.

Luis Enrique’s PSG have started their title defense flawlessly, with two wins and a 10-3 goal difference that puts them top of the 36-team table. The highlight was a 4-2 win away at Manchester City, and the Parisians are on a run of six straight victories in all competitions, most recently a 3-1 win at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

Barcelona are just as impressive. Hansi Flick’s side also have six points, sitting second only on goals scored after a 4-1 win at Galatasaray. The Catalans have won all 11 games this season, lead La Liga with eight wins from eight, and have equaled a club record by scoring three or more goals in nine consecutive matches, most recently 5-2 at Betis.

The head-to-head record over the last 16 meetings is perfectly balanced, with six wins each and four draws, but recent history favors PSG. The French side won 2-1 in Barcelona in October 2025 and 4-1 at Montjuïc in the April 2024 quarter-finals, and they now aim to become only the second team to beat Barcelona three times in a row in the competition. Oliver’s presence may also suit the hosts: PSG have four wins in six games under him, while Barcelona have just one win in five. With Barça also going 17 Champions League games without a clean sheet, goals look likely.

Both coaches have absences to manage. PSG will be without left-back Nuno Mendes, injured against Strasbourg, as well as Senny Mayulu and goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni, though captain Marquinhos returns after being rested and Maghnes Akliouche is back in full training. Flick’s defense is stretched, with Jules Koundé (ankle) and Eric García (thigh, out three to four weeks) missing, along with long-term absentees Andreas Christensen and Roony Bardghji. On the bright side, Gerard Martín is available despite a knock, and Raphinha and Frenkie de Jong are back in contention.
