Benfica Break Hearts with Six-Goal Rout

Benfica delivered a statement win at home to Hearts in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, all but securing their place in the play-off round with a commanding 6-1 victory. The result leaves Hearts on the brink of an early European exit, having already been eliminated from the Champions League earlier in qualifying.

The rout began just three minutes in, as Leandro Barreiro burst into the box and squared the ball for a surging Rafa Silva to finish. Georgiy Sudakov's corner found Tomás Araújo in the 23rd minute, who rose highest to head home Benfica's second. Just before the break, Evangelos Pavlidis converted from the penalty spot, and moments later had what looked like a second ruled out for offside.

Gianluca Prestianni made it 4-0 in the 59th minute, intercepting a pass near the edge of the box and curling a finish into the top-left corner past goalkeeper Zander Clark. Substitute Tom Rennie pulled one back for the Scottish visitors in the 72nd minute, but it did little to stop the flow. Another Benfica substitute, Jhon Durán, netted his first goal for the club in the 87th minute after being set up by Andreas Schjelderup, who then completed the scoring himself with a stoppage-time penalty to make it a final 6-1.
